The Ministry of Commerce released the Report on China's Foreign Trade Situation (Spring 2011), which showed that In the first quarter of 2011, China's import and export trade maintained a momentum of rapid growth and its trade balance further improved. The Ministry of Commerce expects that the growth rate of China's foreign trade in 2011 will drop slightly compared with 2010, and the growth rate of imports is expected to continue to outpace exports, and the trade balance will further improve. In view of the current external attention to the quality of Chinese products, in the 109th China Import and Export Commodities Trade Fair Minister of Commerce Li Rongcan said that this year the Ministry of Commerce will carry out "foreign trade commodity quality improvement year", promote the key areas of foreign trade commodities "quality win".

According to the report, the overall development environment of China's foreign trade in 2011 has improved, but there are still many uncertain factors. It is expected that China's import and export situation is still complex, and there are many uncertain factors affecting the steady development of foreign trade.

Analysts said the world economy is expected to continue to grow, but the recovery process is still difficult. The current European sovereign debt crisis is still serious. The US government has a huge budget deficit and an increasingly heavy debt burden, and the shadow of the fiscal crisis has always been lingering. In addition, the earthquake in Japan has added uncertainties to the global economic recovery.

Against the backdrop of slow recovery of the world economy and the weakening or even disappearance of the effect of replenishing inventories last year, it is difficult for international trade to see a significant growth. World trade growth is expected to slow to 6.5% in 2011 from 14.5% the year before, according to the WTO.

The Ministry of Commerce said it will not only maintain stable growth of foreign trade this year, but also accelerate the transformation of foreign trade development mode. Under the combined action of increasing domestic demand, expanded import policy support and rising commodity prices in the international market, imports are expected to continue to grow faster than exports, and the trade balance will further improve.
